Abstract

The aim of this paper is to offer a stylistic analysis of the poem An Introduction by Kamala Das, an influential postcolonial Indian poet whose poems give voice to issues of female oppression, gendered subjectivity, and personal liberation in Indian society. In doing so, utilizing the content analysis approach, it seeks to describe not just the poem, but also the buried truths beneath it. The critical response primarily focuses on the linguistic and stylistic aspect, including diction, syntax, imagery, and rhetorical sounds, and their effects on the poem’s and thematic and affective significance. The paper examines how she uses code-switching between English and Malayalam as the method of empowering the subject and constructing cultural fusion in the face of neocolonialist suppression during the process of analysis. It also examines the way the poet uses various elements of poetic rhetoric such as repetition, parallelism, and antithesis to help him convey the messages of the poem. Das deploys vivid expression and symbolism to react to the external world and to establish multiple layers of emotional meaning. This research concludes Kamala Das’s rebellion against the patriarchal dominance and her struggle for individuality and freedom.
