Abstract

This article examines the current sustainability practices within the fashion industry, focusing on environmental sustainability, upcycling, and the dichotomy between fast and slow fashion. Through interviews with participants from different backgrounds, both fashion and non-fashion-related, the study explores their understanding of sustainability concepts and the initiatives being implemented in fashion education and industry. The research highlights significant barriers, including fast fashion’s dominance, lack of public awareness, and the need for better education and collaboration between institutions and industries. Recommendations for promoting sustainability in fashion, such as through upcycling, public campaigns, and educational programs, are provided, emphasizing the need for systemic change to encourage sustainable consumer habits and industry practices.
