Abstract

Blasphemy is vastly debated in Pakistan. Blasphemy laws are seen as cornerstone by religious groups to protect Islam from disrespect and defamation in the country however, they are said to be inherently 'flawed' and subject to misuse against religious minorities disproportionately to persecute them. Incidents of vandalism and mob lynching are often reported across Pakistan based on allegations of blasphemy. Such incidents cost Pakistan its international repute and foreign policy. The research data says laws are abused to achieve vested interests and settle personal grudges. This research outlines the legal challenges arising from the implementation of blasphemy laws in Pakistan. It outlines the gruesome implications of the implementation of blasphemy laws. The state's failure and weak rule of law to protect minorities have emboldened incidents of violence against minorities.
