This research aims to explore the aspects of conversational dynamics in a selected podcast interview and to analyses how these aspects are realized in the televised podcast featuring conversation between host (Bill Maher) and guest (Elon Musk). The research applies Gail Jefferson’s (2004) Conversational Analysis framework to examine features such as Opening Conversation, Turn-Taking, Adjacency Pairs, Repair Mechanism, Preference Organization, Closing Conversation and Feedback. The research method employed is descriptive qualitative and quantitative to uncover how Musk and Maher navigate complex topics such as free speech, artificial intelligence and social polarization. The main data are utterances found in annotated transcript of the podcast while the data source is YouTube interview with a duration of approximately twenty minutes. The results of analysis show that both speakers employ various conversational strategies to maintain conversational control and audience engagement. Bill Maher often initiated topic shifts and uses strategic overlaps to guide the conversation while Elon Musk utilizes pauses, elongated sounds and humor to structure responses and assert his perspectives. These features are realized differently by both participants depending upon their conversational role. Ultimately, the analysis underscores the importance of interactional patterns in shaping the tone and impact of contemporary media discourse. Their application helps maintain audience engagement and foster a coherent yet dynamic public discourse.
